NETFLIX’S PAINKILLER FILMED AT ASPECT FILM STUDIOS

You’ve heard about the opioid epidemic, but do you know about the family that started it?

Based on real events, Netflix’s Painkiller is a limited series filmed at Aspect Film Studios. The show focuses on Purdue Pharma, its owners (the Sackler family), and how they used deceptive marketing for their drug, Oxycontin.

Although it’s been more than 20 years since the opioid crisis began, it’s still playing out in real time. In 2019, Purdue Pharma filed for bankruptcy in the face of thousands of federal and state lawsuits against them. As of August 10, 2023 – the day of Painkiller’s release on Netflix – the Supreme Court of the United States blocked Purdue Pharma from finalizing its bankruptcy proceedings and decided to take up the case.

With the Supreme Court’s hearing scheduled for December 2023, we highly recommend you check-out the series for a riveting storytelling of the narrative, portrayed by a stellar cast.
